In OS X Tiger, Apple introduced a new screen saver to help show off the new RSS reader abilities in Safari. The RSS visualizer screen saver was designed to read in an RSS feed and display its contents whenever your screen saver would appear. Apple discontinued this screen saver back in Lion, at the same time they stopped including an RSS reader in Safari.
